Home, Sweet Home! Hofstra Blanks Saint Joseph's In Home Opener

Hempstead, NY - Wiktoria Fronc scored her second goal in as many games as the Hofstra University women's soccer team won its home opener Sunday afternoon, 1-0, at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The victory extended Hofstra's win streak to two as the Pride moved to 3-2 on the season.

Fronc scored at the 61:27 mark following a frantic sequence of action that began in the Pride's defensive end. The Hawks (0-4-2) had a long shot that rebounded off the crossbar and a second shot in front that sailed high. After the ensuing goal kick, Hofstra pushed the ball down the right side. Mathilde Braithwaite came into the box and slid a pass to Millie Davies. Davies' pass hit off a defender and dropped in front of Fronc, who sent a right-footed shot in for the lone goal of the game.

Hofstra keeper Skylar Kuzmich made her return from injury. Coming on as a substitute to start the second half, the fifth-year netminder made one save to notch the victory. Mackenzie Sullivan started but did not face a shot in the opening half.

Saint Joseph's keeper Katie Cappelletti had two second half saves.

The game marked the final non-conference contest for the Pride, which returns to action Sunday at home against Coastal Athletic Association newcomer Campbell. Game time is 1 p.m.
