Hofstra Extends Win Streak To Five With 2-1 Victory At Stony Brook

Stony Brook, NY - Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir and Gabriella Marte had first half goals and Skylar Kuzmich tied a career-high with eight saves as Hofstra extended its winning streak to five games with a 2-1 Coastal Athletic Association victory over Stony Brook at LaValle Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Pride improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in league play with the win. The Seawolves are 3-2-4 overall and 1-1-2 in the CAA.

Hofstra opened the scoring at the 15:11 mark as Dagny Run Petrusdottir made a run with the ball and sent a pass to Thorhallsdottir on the left side. The sophomore cut back and sent a right-footed shot into the far corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.

The Seawolves answered back less than two minutes later as Reilly Rich converted a pass from Linn Beck to tie the score at 17:02. The tie did not last long with the Pride retaking the lead, 2-1, at 18:49 with Marte's goal off a corner kick. The corner kick pinballed between players before Cailey Welch headed a pass back in front of the goal mouth, where Marte headed the ball in for her first career goal.

The second half saw each team with opportunities. Millie Davies had a free kick cleared off the line by a Stony Brook defender, while Kuzmich made a point blank save and Marte blocked two other shots in a frenzied sequence with just over 15 minutes to play.

Hofstra is back in action Thursday night at Charleston. Game time is 7 p.m.
