Hofstra Off To Best Start Since 2016 With Sweep Of Iona

Hempstead, NY - Beatriz Alves tallied the first double-double of the season for the Pride with 26 assists and 13 digs to lead the Hofstra volleyball team to a convincing three-set sweep of Iona on Tuesday evening at the Hynes Athletic Center. 

The 4-0 start to the season is the program's best start since beginning the 2016 campaign with a 4-0 mark. 

Clara Bal led the pride with 11 kills in the match, while Sarah Pierre posted eight kills and Beatriz Braga added seven kills and 10 digs. 

The win improved the Pride's record to 4-0 to start the year, while Iona fell to 1-3. 

Hofstra dominated in all facets of the match, out-hitting the Gaels .245 to .068. The Pride also added seven service aces, while Iona had none. 

Yagmur Cinel posted nine kills for the Pride, which also got eight digs and three service aces from Izadora Stedile

Hofstra will put its undefeated record on the line this weekend when it heads to the UCONN Tournament. The Pride will face the host Huskies on Friday before taking on Merrimack and Lehigh on Saturday. 

NOTES
- Hofstra improved to 10-1 all-time against Iona. It was the first meeting against the Gaels since 2010. 
- Hofstra Head Coach Emily Mansur is a 2005 graduate of Iona and was inducted into their hall of fame in 2022. 
- Hofstra improved to 124-37 (77%) in its NCAA Division I era (1982) against teams from the state of New York.
