How Sweep It Is; Pride Opens Season With Dominating Victory

Hempstead, NY - Beatriz Alves led a balanced Pride offense with 25 assists, four digs, three kills, and three service aces as the Hofstra volleyball team opened the 2023 season with a resounding three-set sweep of Siena on Friday evening at the David S. Mack Physical Education Building.

The Pride won by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, and 26-24 in winning their fourth consecutive season opener.

It was all Hofstra in the first two sets as the Pride's defense held Siena to a negative hitting percentage in both sets as the home team jumped out to a two sets to none lead in the match. Hofstra got pushed to the brink in the final set as they needed to go "extra time" before tallying the two-point victory.

Yagmur Cinel led Hofstra with eight kills, while Clara Bal added seven kills and five digs and Izadora Stedile posted seven kills and seven digs. Beatriz Braga tallied four of Hofstra's 11 service aces in the match.

Claire Isaksen had 11 assists and four digs for Siena, which also got five kills and five digs from Sara Wagner.

Hofstra returns to action tomorrow for a pair of matches. The Pride will face NJIT at 1:30 p.m. and Delaware State at 7 p.m.
