Early Goal Not Enough As UAlbany Rallies Past Pride

Albany, NY - The Hofstra women's soccer team got off to a hot start in its season opener as Aimee Hodgson scored on a penalty kick in the opening minute of the contest, but UAlbany rallied for a pair of second half goals to earn a 2-1 decision at Bob Ford Field at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Thursday evening.

Hofstra slips to 0-1 with the loss, while UAlbany earns the victory in the season opener for the home squad.

Hodgson wasted no time getting Hofstra on the board after she was taken down in the box in the game's opening minute. Hodgson buried the PK in the back of the net just 49 seconds in the game to stake the Pride to the early advantage.

The Pride held a slight advantage in play in the first half, outshooting the Great Danes, 8-6. Both goalies were quite active in the opening 45 minutes with Albany making five saves and Mackenzie Sullivan stopping four shots.

UAlbany would get the equalizer at the 49:32 mark of the second half as Emily Jozak knotted the score at one. The game-winner would come off the leg of Charlotte Takacsy at the 70:18 mark to put the Great Danes in front for good.

Hofstra mounted some serious pressure in the game's final 20 minutes but were unable to even the score.

Sullivan finished with five saves for Hofstra in her first career start. Margaret Peterson had a game-high six shots for the Pride.

Megan Hart had 11 saves for UAlbany.

Hofstra is back on the field on Sunday when it travels to Rutgers for a 7 p.m. contest.
