Hofstra Earns Academic Honors From ITA

Hempstead, NY - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its 2023 Scholar-Athletes and the Hofstra University women's tennis programs placed 10 student-athletes on the squad. The Pride also earned ITA All-Academic Team honors. This marked the 12th consecutive year that the program earned ITA All-Academic Team status.
 
The 10 student-athletes from the Pride who earned scholar-athlete accolades were: Ananyaa Bhargava, Simran Desai, Kaitlyn Ferguson, Jimena Garbino, Abigail Higgins, Sabira Mohamed, Brooklyn Samuels, April Sanchez, Deniz Soyer, and Ciyin Zhang picking up the honor. Garbino is now a five-time honoree, while Desai and Zhang each earned the award for the third consecutive year. Ferguson, Higgins, Sanchez, and Soyer, are each two-time honorees. 

In 2023, 1,513 Division I women's tennis student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, and 234 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners were factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
 
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete honors a player must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letter winner, 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3) been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
