Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Head Men's Basketball Coach
Speedy Claxton announced today the five newcomers that will join the Pride and be part of the 2023-24 team.
They include:
Jacco Fritz (Tiel, The Netherlands),
Eric Parnell (Melbourne, Florida),
KiJan Robinson (Apopka, Florida),
Silas Sunday (Lucan, Ireland), and
Myles Wilmoth (Chestnut Ridge, New York). Fritz, Parnell, Sunday, and Wilmoth are all transfers, while Robinson will be a freshman and was previously announced in November.
"We are really excited about these newcomers to our program," commented Claxton. "They are all talented student-athletes who will be strong additions to our program and the Hofstra community."
Fritz, a 6-10 forward, joins Hofstra from Canisius College and will have one season of eligibility remaining. He played four seasons for the Golden Griffins, totaling 761 points, 529 rebounds, 231 assists, 61 steals, and 52 blocks. In 2022-23 he averaged 8.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game as he played in 30 contests and made 15 starts. A member of the 2019-20 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Rookie Team, Fritz played with the Dutch Youth National Teams on both the U16 and U18 squads and captured a Silver medal in 2017 and a gold medal in 2018.
Parnell, a 6-3 guard, spent his freshman season at Eastern Florida State College and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. Parnell had a solid rookie campaign as he averaged 10.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game as he played 31 games and made 21 starts. Parnell was named to the All-Central Conference First Team for his strong play. Parnell attended Holy Trinity Episopal Academy prior to Eastern Florida and averaged 10 points, six rebounds, and two assists as a senior in high school and 10 points and three rebounds as a junior.
Robinson, a 6-3 guard, attends Wekiva High School and has been a member of two state championship teams at Orlando Christian Prep. In 2022-23 he averaged 17.6 points, 5.8 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per outing. That followed up his junior season in which he averaged 13.2 points, 4.7 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game.
Sunday, a 7-0 forward, played his freshman season at Iona University and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. He appeared in 27 games and made one start. Sunday totaled 41 points, 42 rebounds, four blocks, and two steals for the Gaels. Sunday played at Our Saviour Lutheran School in the Bronx, New York, prior to his time at Iona. He helped lead the team to a 27-7 record and a title at the Grind Session World Championship. Sunday was named the Most Outstanding Performer after totaling 26 points and 16 rebounds in the championship game.
Wilmoth, a 6-9 forward joins Hofstra after spending the first three years of his collegiate career at Butler University. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. Wilmoth has 81 points, 97 rebounds, 17 blocked shots, 13 assists, and 10 steals in his career. He has played in 59 games and this past season he appeared in 13 games. Wilmoth attended the St. Andrew's School in Rhode Island prior to his time at Butler. He totaled 1,140 points and 1,203 rebounds and was the 2019-20 Rhode Island Independent Schools Athlete of the Year. His #11 jersey was retired by St. Andrew's and Wilmoth averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds as a senior.
