Top Of The Order Leads Hofstra Past Manhattan

Pomona, NY - Santino Rosso's three-run home run capped a four-run fifth inning and gave the Pride a 6-3 lead in what would be an 8-6 victory over Manhattan at Clover Stadium Wednesday night. Mike McKenna struck out five batters in 1 â…” innings of relief and was credited with the win, while Brian Hart threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning to notch his first save of the season.

The Pride won its second consecutive road game and moved to 19-22 on the season. Manhattan dropped to 13-26 with the loss.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double from Steve Harrington, the Pride found themselves trailing, 3-1, after the bottom of the first. Hofstra would get a run back in the third as Dylan Palmer came in from third on an attempted double steal. Hofstra would take the lead for good in the fifth. Harrington had an RBI single and Rosso followed with a three-run home run, his second of the season.

The Jaspers plated a run in the fifth and sixth to get within one, 6-5. McKenna (2-0) came on with one out in the sixth and the tying run on second and struck out the two batters he faced to escape the inning. The right-hander struck out the side in the seventh, working around a one-out single and base on balls.

Leading 7-5 in the eighth, Michael O'Hanlon came on with runners on first and third. He issued a walk to load the bases and then struck out the next two batters, before walking in a run. O'Hanlon escaped further damage by striking out the final batter of the inning.

Harrington would drive in his third run of the game in the ninth with his second double of the game to give Hofstra an insurance run going into the bottom of the ninth. Hart made short work of the Jaspers in their turn at bat, getting a foul out and two strikeouts to close out the win.

Harrington and Jake Liberatore each went 3-5 on the night. Harrington had three RBIs, while Liberatore scored three runs. Rosso had a pair of hits and three RBIs as well. Palmer and Kevin Bruggeman also had two hits each.

Manhattan starter Tyler Babel (0-2) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits over 4 ⅔ innings. Alfredo Delgado had two hits, including a home run, and two RBIs.
