Camarda Blanks Stony Brook To Give Hofstra Series Win

Hempstead, NY - Brad Camarda threw a complete-game, five-hit shutout and Dylan Palmer went 3-3 with two RBIs and a run scored as Hofstra posted a 4-0 victory over Stony Brook Sunday afternoon at University Field. The win gave the Pride a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association series victory over the Seawolves.

Hofstra improved to 10-16 overall and 5-7 in CAA play with the win, while Stony Brook dipped to 10-15 overall and 3-6 in league action with the loss.

The Pride would get all they would need in the first inning as Palmer led off the game with a walk, stole second and went to third on a throwing error, and came into score on Will Kennedy's double to left center. Palmer added a two-run single in the seventh and Ryan Morash drove in the Pride's final run with a single in the eighth.

The story of the game was Camarda (2-1), who threw 121 pitches, to notch his second career complete game and shutout. The graduate right-hander did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and worked out of trouble in that inning as he stranded a one-out runner at second by getting a strikeout and a flyout. In the seventh, the Seawolves got a runner to third with one out before Camarda once again came up with a big strikeout and a flyout to get out of the inning. Stony Brook put runners on first and second with one out in the eighth and had the tying run at the plate. Camarda escaped once again, this time with a 6-4-3 double play. In the ninth inning, Camarda gave up a leadoff double and a two-out walk before getting a game-ending flyout.

In addition to Palmer's three hits, Hofstra also got a multi-hit game from Santino Rosso with a pair of doubles and a run scored.

Stony Brook starter Eddie Smink (1-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings. JT Raab threw the final inning for Stony Brook and allowed one run.

Hofstra returns to action at Rutgers Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.
