Nikki Mennella had three goals and an assist, but Brown used a big second half run to rally for a 10-7 win over the Hofstra women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon at James M. Shuart Stadium.
The loss was the Pride's first of the season as they fell to 2-1. Brown picked up the win in its season opener.
Brown led by two goals after the first quarter and would push the lead to 3-0 at the 12:30 mark before Hofstra was able to get on the scoreboard.
Nikki Mennella would tally her eighth of the season to close the gap to two and after another Brown goal,
Nikki Mennella added another first half tally to make it a 4-2 game at the break.
The Bears re-opened a three-goal advantage early in the third quarter before the Pride mounted its rally.
Chloe Sedlar got the run started and she would be joined by
Katie Kelly,
Megan Flannery, and
Nikki Mennella in allowing Hofstra to take its first lead of the game at 6-5 with 5:30 remaining in the third quarter.
Brown had an answer, though, and the visitors scored five consecutive goals to earn a 10-6 lead with just under 10 minutes left in regulation. The Pride was able to get one goal back, via a goal from
Lauren Coletti, but could not get any closer as they dropped their first contest of the season.
Brynn Hepting and
Taylor Mennella led Hofstra with three caused turnovers each, while
Courtney Carollo (5) and
Kerry Walser (4) were strong for the Pride in draw controls.
Trinity Reed added two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Mia Mascone had four points on three goals and an assist for Brown, which also got two goals from Claire Jeschke, Annie Burton, and Julia Ford.
Hofstra is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Fairfield for a 1 p.m. contest.

- Hofstra is now 4-8 all-time against Brown.
- The hat trick was
Nikki Mennella's second of the season after tallying five goals against #25 Vanderbilt.
- The caused turnover totals for Hepting and
Taylor Mennella were both career-highs.
