Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra women's basketball team concluded its 2023-24 non-conference schedule with a 53-45 loss to Manhattan on New Year's Eve from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex.
Hofstra's record sits at 6-5 going into its Coastal Athletic Association schedule, and Manhattan improves to 8-3.
Zyheima Swint scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, and she added two blocks for the Pride.
Emma Von Essen scored 10 points for the home side, while
Ally Knights dished out seven assists.
Hofstra opened the game with a 10-4 run inside the first four minutes of the game before the Jaspers took the lead with 15 unanswered points lasting from the six-minute mark of the opening quarter to lead by nine. Manhattan's lead grew to as large as 10 points in the second quarter before Swint and
Alarice Gooden sunk back-to-back jumpers to cut the deficit to six points heading into halftime.
Hofstra took its first lead since the first quarter thanks to an 11-3 run, capped off by a
Kayley Joseph-Bernard running layup to give Hofstra a 39-37 advantage with 3:26 remaining in the third quarter. Manhattan tied the game at 39-all before scoring the final six points of the quarter to lead the Pride 45-39 after three quarters from the Mack Sports Complex. The Jasper defense allowed only six Hofstra points in the fourth quarter to secure the road win.
Manattan's Petra Juric led all players with 17 points, and Anne Bair finished with 12 points for the guests.
