McDonnell Sets New School Record as Hofstra Women's Indoor Track Season Begins

Staten Island, NY / Boston, MA - The Hofstra women's indoor track & field team began its season with races in both Staten Island and Boston, with Jordyn McDonnell clocking in at 16:56.15 in the 5000m race at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville meet on Saturday, December 2. McDonnell's time beats her own school record set last December at the 2022 FastTrack Season Opener. 

On Friday, the Pride competed at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island for the FastTrack Season Opener. Jordyn Hoit clocked in at 9.44 in the 60m dash, placing her 15th. Sofia Stasinos (10.29) and Cynthia Zhao (10.78) also ran in the 60m dash for Hofstra. In the 200m race, Dominique Jimenez placed 61st with a time of 34.79, and she ran alongside Claire Galante (35.02) and Sadie Anderson (38.73). In the 800m, Amanda Hinojos placed 12th with a time of 2:37.23. Shavari Maharaj (2:55.11), Jordan Slovensky (3:03.14), and Lianne Emanuel (3:15.64) also ran the 800m race.

Representing the Pride in the 3000m was Jackalynn Orellana, who placed second with a time of 10:42.69. Right behind Orellana was Allison Reid, placing third with a time of 10:53.94, with Leslie Villafuerte Castro (11:21.88), and Samantha Szabo (11:24.09) shortly behind. April Ivan was the sole Hofstra women's student-athlete to compete in the field events. She recorded a shot mark of 8.47m in the shot put event. 

Saturday morning in Boston, Jordyn McDonnell beat her own Hofstra school record with a 16:56.15 time in the 5000m race at Boston University. McDonnell's time currently ranks her third among Coastal Athletic Association track and field runners. 

On Saturday afternoon in Staten Island, the Pride competed in St. John's Youree Spence-Garcia Meet at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. In the 60m dash, Jackalynn Orellana lead Hofstra clocking in at 9.16. Lily Yepez (9.20), Mackenzie Kelly (9.23), Amanda Hinojos (9.60), Mai Takahashi (9.93), Leslie Villafuerte Castro (10.11), Savannah Weyrauch (10.13), Samantha Szabo (10.38), Victoria Minicucci (10.46), Gabriella Sultan (10.66), and Annabella Pisapia (11.33) all ran in the 60m dash. 

Jordyn Hoit (31.95) and Sofia Stasinos (35.91) represented Hofstra in the 200m. In the 1000m, Shavari Maharaj placed 28th with a time of 3:49.23, while Lianne Emanuel was 31st at 4:18.95. In the shot put event, April Ivan recorded a shot mark of 8.28m.

The Pride competes next in the Wagner College Shootout on Friday, December 8, in Staten Island, New York.
