Hofstra Rallies In Second Half But Falls Short at UNLV

Las Vegas, NV - Darlinstone Dubar tallied 17 points to lead all scorers, but the Hofstra men's basketball team dropped a road contest at UNLV on Thursday evening after battling back in the second stanza to take the lead. The Runnin' Rebels tallied a 74-56 win over the Pride at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Tyler Thomas added 13 points for the Pride in the game.

Hofstra sees its record move to 7-5 this season, while UNLV evened its record at 5-5.

UNLV scored the first five points of the game and would lead 14-3 with just over eight minutes elapsed in the first half. The Pride gradually chipped away and a 13-6 run would close the gap to 20-16 with 7:49 left before intermission following a three-pointer from Dubar. The Runnin' Rebels would extend the lead to as many as 13 later in the first half before a three-point play from the home team with six seconds left allowed them to take a 12-point lead into the break.

Hofstra came out of the locker room on fire, though, and the Pride used a 16-2 run to take its first lead of the game at 40-38 with 15:26 left in regulation. Dubar had seven points during the run, while Thomas added five to get Hofstra back in the contest.

Keylan Boone put UNLV back in front on the Runnin' Rebels next possession before helping make it a 43-40 lead with two free throws. A Dubar basket with 13:32 left would once again make it a one-point game but UNLV then put together a 12-2 run to take control of the game and lead 55-44 with 9:28 showing on the clock. That proved to be enough breathing room for UNLV as they would go on to capture the victory.

Keylan Boone had 16 points for UNLV, while Luis Rodriguez posted 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Runnin' Rebels.

Hofstra will close non-conference play next Saturday (December 30) when it faces local rival St. John's at UBS Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will air nationally on FS1.

NOTES
- Hofstra is now 0-2 all-time against UNLV. Today was the first meeting between the teams since December 30, 1992.
- Dubar has now scored in double figures in 13 consecutive games, while Thomas has scored in double figures in four straight contests.
- One of the most remarkable and quirky statistics came to an end tonight for Hofstra. Coming into tonight, Hofstra had won 19 consecutive road Thursday games dating back to February 9, 2017 (20 straight if counting a neutral site game against Dayton).
