Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Stephen Gorchov

Thomas And Fritz Carry Hofstra To Comeback Victory

Estero, FL - Tyler Thomas poured in 30 points and Jacco Fritz added 14 points and nine rebounds to lead the Hofstra men's basketball team to a come-from-behind, 85-76, victory over Wright State in the semifinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase on Tuesday evening at Hertz Arena.

Hofstra will take on High Point at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the championship game.

The win moves Hofstra's record to 3-2 this season. Wright State falls to 1-4 with the loss.

Hofstra faced two significant early deficits in the game as Wright State led 13-1 five minutes into the contest and held a 17-4 lead at the 12:52 mark before the Pride chipped away. Hofstra would go on a 19-3 run over the next nearly six minutes to take a 23-20 lead after a three-pointer from Darlinstone Dubar. It was all Wright State down the stretch of the opening stanza, though, as the Raiders scored the final 10 points of the half to take a 48-38 lead into the break.

Just over a minute into the second half Hofstra would still trail by 10, 50-40, before mounting the game-changing 22-8 run over the next eight-plus minutes to take a 62-58 lead after a pair of free throws from Thomas. The two teams would battle back and forth over the next few minutes before a three-point play from Jaquan Carlos followed by two more free throws from Thomas put the Pride up 72-71 with 4:16 remaining. The run would eventually be a 9-0 Pride spurt that made it 76-71 at the 2:28 mark. Thomas was electric down the stretch as he had seven of the Pride's 11 points in the final 2:28 to push the Pride to the victory. His biggest bucket came with 1:40 left as he drained a step-back three-pointer to make it a six-point game with only 100 seconds left.

Carlos added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals in an all-around solid effort. Dubar contributed 16 points and four rebounds.

Brandon Noel had 17 points and six assists for Wright State, which also got 15 points and five rebounds from Tanner Holden.

Wednesday's title tilt will air on FloHoops.
