Hempstead, NY –
Tara McNally scored two goals for the second time this season as the Hofstra field hockey team closed out its 2023 season with a 2-0 win at home over Rider from a soggy Hofstra Field Hockey Stadium. The Pride ends the season with a 6-12 overall record, and Rider's record falls to 7-11.
Following a scoreless first quarter, McNally tallied her first goal of the day on Hofstra's first penalty corner of the contest. After
Teresa Karoff inserted the ball,
Jamie Mc Millan found McNally unmarked in the center of the shooting arc. She let loose a low shot the trickled between the legs of Rider goalie Carlee Fulton at the 7:26 mark of the quarter.
Hofstra's defense and
Meghan Reilly, who earned the first start of her career, limited the Rider attack to just three shots after the first quarter while Reilly made a glove save in the second quarter on a rare Rider shot on goal. The Pride all but secured its win over the Broncs early in the fourth quarter on McNally's second goal of the day. On a Hofstra penalty corner with 9:17 remaining, the Hofstra captain sent her shot on frame after receiving the pass from Mc Millan, and the ball popped up and over Fulton after an attempted block.
Rider's Fulton received the loss after making five saves.
