No. 22 Hofstra Gets Past Northeastern, Claims Top Seed In CAA Championship

Brookline, MA - No. 22 Hofstra scored two early first half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Northeastern Saturday night at Parsons Field. The win gave Hofstra the Coastal Athletic Association regular season championship and secured the top seed in next week's CAA Championship.

Hofstra, the two-time defending CAA Champions, improved to 11-3-4 overall and 5-1-2 in the CAA. Northeastern sees its season end with a 4-7-6 overall record and a 1-4-3 mark in the CAA.

The Pride got on the board just 2:32 into the game after earning a corner kick. Eliot Goldthorp sent the kick into the box, where it was headed in by Pierce Infuso. Just over three minutes later, the Pride used good ball movement to score a second goal, this time a header from Ryan Carmichael off assists from Goldthorp and Stefan Mason.

The Huskies cut their deficit in half early in the second half as Sebastian Restrepo scored on a free kick at 51:46. Neither team would score the rest of the way, though Hofstra had many solid chances. However, Northeastern goalkeeper Gregor Shaw recorded eight of his nine saves in the second half. Hofstra keeper Wessel Speel made three saves on the night.

Hofstra held an 18-8 shot advantage and a 12-4 lead in shots on goal. The Pride also had seven corner kicks to Northeastern's four.

The Pride will have a first round bye in the CAA Championship and will host a first round game on Thursday, November 2 at 4 p.m. between Delaware and Drexel.
