Hofstra Falls At Towson, Will Be No. 2 Seed In CAA Championship

Towson, MD - Towson scored two first half goals and Riley Melendez made seven saves as the Tigers picked up a 2-0 victory over Hofstra Sunday afternoon in the regular season finale at Tiger Field. The victory clinched the Coastal Athletic Association regular season championship for Towson, which will be the No. 1 seed in the CAA Championship. 

The Tigers improved to 13-2-2 overall and 9-1-2 in the CAA with the win. The Pride, which will be the No. 2 seed in the CAA Championship, is 12-4-1 overall and 9-2-1 in league play. 

Towson opened the scoring in the 31st minute as Phoebe Knowles sent a shot from the top of the box into the upper left corner following a pass from Nia Christopher. The Tigers went up, 2-0, just four minutes later as Christopher found the back of the net with assists credited to Alexandra Rush and Sydney Cradle. 

Hofstra had a 12-10 shot advantage and had seven shots on goal to Towson's four. Skylar Kuzmich had two saves for the Pride. 

Hofstra will host a CAA Quarterfinal match between No. 3 Monmouth and No. 6 Stony Brook Thursday at 4 p.m. The Pride will face the winner in a CAA Semifinal on Sunday at 1 p.m. Towson will host a quarterfinal Thursday between No. 4 Northeastern and No. 5 William & Mary, and play the winner on Sunday. The CAA Championship Game will take place Saturday, November 4 at the highest remaining seed. 

Notes 
-This is Hofstra's sixth No. 2 seed in the CAA Championship. The Pride has won three CAA titles as the No. 2 seed. 
-Hofstra is 26-3-1 all-time versus Towson.
-The loss snapped a five-game winning streak.
