Hofstra Falls To Monmouth In Overtime

Hempstead, NY - Monmouth's Summer Reimet scored with 2:45 remaining in the second overtime to give her team a 2-1 lead and the Hawks made it stand as they advanced to the Coastal Athletic Association championship game with a victory over second-seeded Hofstra Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

The third-seeded Hawks, who tied the game with 15 minutes to play, improved to 11-5-2 on the season and will face top seeded Towson Sunday in Maryland for the CAA title. Hofstra, the two-time defending CAA champions, sees its season end with a 12-5-1 record.

The Pride got on the board first as Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir sent in a rebound at 21:24 to give Hofstra a 1-0 lead. Millie Davies got the assist as her long shot caromed off the crossbar to Thorhallsdottir in front of the goal.

The Hawks did not have a shot on goal in the first half with chances by either team few and far between. But in the second half, CAA Rookie of the Year Liza Suydam found some space at the top of the box and put a shot into the upper corner to tie the game with 14:55 to play.

Following a scoreless first overtime in which Monmouth had the only shot on goal, the Hawks would break the tie when Chloe Ferreira sent a pass into into the box that a sliding Reimet got a touch on near the goal line, redirecting it past a diving Skylar Kuzmich for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Each team finished with 12 shots on the day. Kuzmich had two saves for Hofstra, while Coster had two for the Hawks.

Notes:
-Thorhallsdottir's goal was her fourth of the season.
-Hofstra finished the season 6-2-0 at home.
-The 12-win season was the 16th in program's 31-year history.
