Hofstra Blanks Monmouth To Maintain Hold On First Place

West Long Branch, NJ - Millie Davies and Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir each scored goals, and Skylar Kuzmich made four saves as Hofstra posted a 2-0 Coastal Athletic Association victory over Monmouth Thursday night at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. The win kept Hofstra in first place in the CAA going into Sunday's regular season finale at second-place Towson. That game will decide the regular season CAA champion and the top seed in the CAA Championship.

The Pride moved to 12-3-1 overall and 9-1-1 in league play with the win, their fifth in a row. Monmouth is 8-5-2 overall and 7-2-2 in the CAA.

Davies put Hofstra on the board at the 23:22 mark as she took advantage of a Monmouth turnover in their defensive end and sent a left-footed shot into the upper right corner from distance for her third goal of the season. Hofstra doubled its lead at 59:56 when Wiktoria Fronc sent a pass to Mathilde Braithwaite on the right sideline. The Pride's junior forward took a few touches before threading a pass to Thorhallsdottir in the box. Monmouth keeper Cassandra Coster tried to intercept the pass, leaving Thorhallsdottir all alone in front of an empty net. The sophomore from Iceland tapped in a shot for her third goal of the season.

The Hawks put a lot of pressure on the Pride in the second half with eight shots. But Kuzmich made all four of her saves in the final 45 minutes including a penalty kick stop with just under four minutes remaining. Coster made three saves for Monmouth.

Hofstra and Towson will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday in Maryland.
