Hofstra Downs William & Mary for Series Sweep

Hempstead, NY – The Hofstra volleyball team completed the series sweep of William & Mary with a decisive 3-0 win over the Tribe from inside the David S. Mack Physical Education Center Sunday afternoon.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-20, and 25-21 in favor of Hofstra. The Pride improves to 16-5 overall and 6-4 in league play, and William & Mary slips to 11-9 overall and 6-4 in the CAA following today's defeat.

Trailing 3-2 early in the first set, Hofstra took the lead thanks to a 6-1 sparked by a Tribe service error and three Yagmur Cinel kills. The Pride limited William & Mary to an attacking percentage of just .097 while allowing only eight kills as Hofstra claimed the first set.

Hofstra scored 10 of the first 14 points of the second set, continuing where they left off from the opening set against the Tribe. William & Mary closed the gap towards the end of the set with an 8-2 run to put the score at 18-17 Hofstra, but the Pride reeled off three straight points to widen their lead to four and give them enough of a cushion to end the second set with a five-point win. Hofstra hit a .343 attacking percentage and delivered 16 kills in the second set, both match-highs for the home side.

Hofstra jumped out to a 9-2 lead over the Tribe to start the third set before growing its lead to nine on a pair of William & Mary errors and a Cinel service ace. Hofstra kept up the intensity throughout the set, leading 17-9 before William & Mary cut Hofstra's lead to three with a 6-2 run. The Pride got to match point with six of the next 10 points to put the set score at 24-18. William & Mary made a late run of three unanswered points in an attempt to extend the match to a fourth set, but Izadora Stedile recorded her 10th kill of the contest to seal the Sunday sweep of the Tribe.

Cinel and Stedile led the Pride with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, while Chiara Cucco recorded a game-high 14 digs. Sarah Pierre tallied three solo blocks in the Hofstra win, and Beatriz Alves dished out 33 assists.

Taylor Burrell led William & Mary with eight kills, and Amy Schwem tallied 16 assists.
