Mack Sports Complex Equipped With New Lighting

| By:
Hempstead, NY - Fans of Hofstra basketball and visitors to the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex will see new and improved lighting in the building this year in a major summer project that was recently completed.

Thanks to the support of Hofstra University President Dr. Susan Poser, the lighting project was a four-week process that was started in early August and completed at the end of the month. The installation of the new lighting was done by Hofstra's Physical Plant - Facilities & Operations Department.

"We are always striving to improve the customer experience in the Mack Sports Complex," commented Hofstra Vice President and Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. "The Mack hosts so many different events, from Hofstra basketball games to commencement ceremonies, and everything in between. This massive upgrade will be a game-changer for everyone who attends our basketball games and other events in the Mack Sports Complex. A special thank you to the Hofstra administration, led by President Poser, for their unwavering support of this project."

Hofstra partnered with Musco Lighting on the project, which features a switch from halogen bulbs to LED and high-bay luminaire fixtures throughout the facility. The new lighting will feature programmed light movement, color options, instant on/off, and also vastly improve the energy usage of the lighting in the building. A total of 108 new fixtures were installed in the Mack Sports Complex, including 40 Musco Total Light Control LED luminaires aimed at improving the lighting over the playing surface and 68 high-bay fixtures over the concourse and stands.

LED lighting and fixtures are the new industry standard for facility lighting to improve the visibility and sightlines for competitors, visitors, and broadcasts.

Since 1976, Musco Lighting, the industry leader, has specialized in the design and manufacture of sports and transportation/infrastructure lighting solutions around the world. They've pioneered systems using metal halide and LED technologies that have made dramatic improvements in energy efficiency and provided affordable ways to control spill light and glare. Musco's new and retrofit, permanent and temporary lighting solutions can be found from Little League® fields to Olympic Games.

On campus, Musco Lighting can be found at James M. Shuart Stadium, Hofstra Soccer Stadium, Bill Edwards Stadium, and the intramural soccer field.
