Hempstead, NY - The start of Colonial Athletic Association play has been good to the Hofstra volleyball team as the Pride won its third consecutive match, all in conference play, with a three-set sweep of North Carolina A&T on Saturday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
Freshman
Izadora Stedile posted a match-high 13 kills for Hofstra, while junior
Yagmur Cinel added 11 kills.
The Pride moves to 6-8 overall and 3-0 in league play, while the Aggies fall to 4-9 and 0-3 in conference.
Hofstra dominated early and often in the match, winning the first set by 11 points to take the early lead. The Pride would then hit at a .321 clip in the second stanza to take a 2-0 lead in the contest and put the team on the brink of victory. The final set saw Hofstra once again hold North Carolina A&T under 20 points as they pulled away for a convincing win.
Sophomore
Beatriz Alves had 38 assists, five kills, five digs, three blocks, and two service aces for the Pride, while fellow sophomore
Chiara Cucco added 16 digs. Freshman
Emilly Nunes led Hofstra with five blocks.
Naiya Sawtelle had 11 kills to lead North Carolina A&T, while Addy Warfield posted 13 assists and five digs.
The Pride and the Aggies will conclude the two-match weekend series on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Hofstra. The contest will air on FloVolleyball.
NOTES
- This marked the first-ever meeting between Hofstra and CAA-newcomer North Carolina A&T.
- Stedile and Cinel have each reached double figures in kills in three straight matches.
- The sweep was Hofstra's second of the season and first since the season opener against Niagara on August 26.
