BB: Rosso Homers Twice For Hofstra In NCAA Regional Versus North Carolina

Chapel Hill, NC - Hofstra and North Carolina combined for eight home runs, with the Pride's Santino Rosso hitting a pair in a three-hit day. However, North Carolina's Mac Horvath hit a pair of the Tar Heels five home runs as the 10th-seed posted a 15-4 victory over the Pride in the opening game of the 2022 NCAA Regional at Boshamer Stadium. North Carolina pulled away late, scoring nine runs over the seventh and eighth innings.

The Pride (30-22) saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end with the loss, while North Carolina improved to 39-19 with its eighth straight win.

Hofstra did not waste much time as Kevin Bruggeman put the Pride on the scoreboard with a solo home run, his seventh of the year, three batters into the game. The Tar Heels answered right back in the bottom of the first as Horvath hit his 17th home run of the season to tie the game at one.

Rosso launched his third round-tripper of the season, and first of the game, on the first pitch of the top of the second before Tomas Frick tied the game in the bottom of the second with his second home run of the year.

Horvath hit his second of the game in the third, a two-run shot that put North Carolina up by two, 4-2. The Tar Heels manufactured a run in the fourth with a walk, a single, and an RBI bunt single from Colby Wilkerson that extended the lead to 5-2. North Carolina added a solo home run from Danny Serretti in the fifth to go up by four.

Hofstra got a run back in the sixth as Ryan Morash singled, went to second on a passed ball, and came in to score on an RBI single from Michael Florides

The Tar Heels put the game out of reach in the seventh, scoring seven runs to take a 13-3 lead. Vance Honeycutt, the ACC Championship Most Valuable Player, had the big blow with a three-run home run.

Rosso homered in the top of the eighth for his second of the game. The Tar Heels went on to add two more runs in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Rosso also had a double to go along with his two solo home runs. Morash also had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-4 with a double and a run scored. Hofstra starter Brad Camarda (8-2) took the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings.
