Hempstead, NY - Following a tremendous season that saw the team finish tied for second in the Colonial Athletic Association standings, six members of the Hofstra baseball team have been selected to All-CAA teams. The Pride place three players on the first team, one on the second team, and two on the honorable mention team.
Leading the way on the first team is senior outfielder
Brian Morrell (Shoreham, NY), who gets the nod in his first season with the Pride. Morrell led Hofstra with a .341 batting average, 61 hits, 7 home runs, and 34 RBIs. He ranks second in the CAA in batting and is sixth in on-base percentage (.415) and slugging percentage (.542). In CAA action, Morrell batted .293 with 3 home runs and 13 RBIs.
Joining Morrell on the first team is starting pitcher Brad Camarada (Dix Hills, NY). The senior right-hander posted a 7-1 record with a 3.55 ERA during the regular season. He tied for the team lead in wins, a total that ranks third on the Hofstra single season list, and leads the team in ERA and strikeouts (62). Camarda is tied for second in the CAA in wins and is tied for seventh in strikeouts. His 76 innings pitched rank fourth in the league and he leads in innings pitched per game at 6.33. Camarda's .228 batting average against is eighth in the CAA.
Rounding out the first team honorees is sophomore relief pitcher
Michael O'Hanlon (Glendale, NY). The Pride's main closer appeared in 16 games with two starts and posted a 2-2 record, 6 saves and a 2.97 ERA in 33 1/3 innings of work. The right-hander struck out 35 batters and held opponents to a .240 average. In his 14 relief appearances, O'Hanlon compiled a 1.88 ERA with a .204 batting average against. His six saves lead the team and are tied for the fourth most in a single season in program history. In CAA play, O'Hanlon posted a 2-1 record with 5 saves and a 1.88 ERA in 11 appearances. O'Hanlon's six saves are tied for third in the CAA.
Junior catcher
Kevin Bruggeman (Trumbull, CT) earned a spot on the All-CAA second team after a breakout season for the Pride. Starting 40 of 41 games, Bruggeman posted a .304 average, 6 home runs and 34 RBIs. He set personal-bests in all offensive categories, and was a tremendous presence behind the plate, throwing out 24 percent of would-be base stealers. Bruggeman shined in CAA play with a .333 average and a team-high 20 RBIs.
Ryan Morash (Califon, NJ), a senior infielder, and
Jake Liberatore (Blue Point, NY), a graduate utility player, nabbed spots on the CAA Honorable Mention team after receiving All-CAA votes on at least 33-percent of the ballots. Morash batted .276 in 47 games with 3 home runs, 26 RBIs, and a team-high 12 stolen bases. He posted a .330 average in CAA play with 17 RBIs
Liberatore finished second on the team in batting at .317 and added 3 home runs, 19 RBIs, and a team-leading 35 runs scored. He ranks seventh in the CAA in batting and fourth in on-base percentage (.433). In league play, Liberatore led the Pride with a .341 average and 24 runs scored. He also added 2 home runs and 11 RBIs.
Hofstra finished the regular season with a 26-21 record and a 15-9 mark in the CAA. The Pride will begin play in the CAA Championship Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. versus Elon.
