BB: Hofstra Drops 9-5 Decision To LIU

Hempstead, NY - Long Island scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend a 5-4 lead to 7-4 and went on to post a 9-5 victory over Hofstra Tuesday afternoon at University Field. The Pride had rallied from a 5-1 deficit to get within one in the bottom of the fifth.

Hofstra slipped to 12-11 on the season with the loss. The Sharks are 17-11.

LIU manufactured a run in the first as Seth Surrett was hit by a pitch to lead off the game and, following a walk, the Sharks executed a double steal to put runners on second and third. Two batters later, Giovanni Ciaccio hit a sacrifice fly to put LIU on the board.

Hofstra wasted no time in answering as Anthony D'Onofrio led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to left field. The Sharks would follow with two runs in the second, one in the third, and one in the fourth to open a 5-1 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Kevin Bruggeman hit a one out triple and Brian Morrell followed with his two-run home run. Steve Harrington singled and went to second on an error, and then came in to score on Jake Liberatore's single through the right side.

The Sharks would answer right away as Christopher Hund walked with one out in the sixth and came in on a triple from Surrett. Michael Edelman followed with an RBI single to extend LIU's lead to 7-4. The Pride would load the bases in the bottom of the inning and score a run on a walk to Morrell. LIU would add two more runs in the ninth to close out the scoring.
