4/1/2022 11:37:00 AM

As the Hofstra University Department of Athletics celebrates the 50th anniversary of the passing of Title IX, we will honor, acknowledge, and inform our University community about some of the members of the Pride who helped make a difference at Hofstra and paved the way for today's current student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and teams. Leading up the the June 23 anniversary of the passage of Title IX, Hofstra Athletics will feature many individuals who played a role in enacting change or those whose experiences at Hofstra were enhanced by the efforts of those who came before them.

Title IX is a federal civil rights law in the United States of America that was passed as part (Title IX) of the Education Amendments of 1972. It prohibits sex-based discrimination in any school or other education program that receives funding from the federal government.

Please consider a gift to celebrate and support the 50th anniversary of Title IX! All proceeds from this campaign will go directly towards our Hofstra Athletics Pride Club account for women's athletics.

This week, we feature a video interview with Hofstra women's basketball alumna, Sydni Epps who was a member of the Pride from 2012 to 2017. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and went on to pursue her Masters of Arts and Rhetorical Studies & Public Advocacy. As a student-athlete, Epps was a team captain in 2016-17, and was heavily involved in both the Hofstra Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and CAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. The Hofstra SAAC president from 2015-17, Epps organized community service outings, fundraisers and volunteer projects for Hofstra's student-athletes. In addition, Epps served a two-year term as the Colonial Athletic Association's representative on the NCAA Division I National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and also served as a voting member of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Oversight Committee.

Epps was nominated for the 2017 Women's Basketball Coaches Association Good Works Team which recognized a group of student-athletes who demonstrated dedication to community service and altruism.

Epps is currently a Program Manager at SYPartners and previously spent time as an Assistant for External Affairs and Community Engagement for the New York Mets and was the Senior Coordinator for Youth Strategy and Social Impact at Madison Square Garden.
