Oceanside, NY -
Ostap Kovalenko,
Josh Reynolds, and
Vincent Turina each posted singles victories, but St. Francis Brooklyn's win in doubles proved to be the deciding factor in a 4-3 win over Hofstra Saturday at Point Set Indoor.
Hofstra slipped to 4-7 on the season with the loss. The Terriers improved to 8-5.
The Pride picked up a 6-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles flight by
Bo Cautaerts and Kovalenko. However, St. Francis won flights two and three to snag the point.
The teams would split the six singles matches. Kovalenko picked up a 6-1, 4-6, 10-3 win over Gustavo Pinho at No. 2, while Reynolds won in straight sets (6-4, 6-3) over Gleb Mityurin at No. 5. Turina won at No. 4 when his opponent, Jan Godfrey Seno, retired. Turina led the match, 6-0, 3-0 at the time.
Hofstra returns to action Thursday, March 31 at Loyola Maryland.
