Trumbull, CT – Hofstra won the doubles point but dropped five of six singles flights in a 5-2 loss at Sacred Heart Sunday night at the Tennis Club of Trumbull. The Pride slipped to 0-2 on the season with the loss while the Pioneers improved to 4-5 on the year.
The doubles team of
Deniz Soyer and
Mandisa Walle earned a 7-5 win over Kate Starastenka and Vitalina Golod at the No. 1 flight, and
Kayla Solagnier and
Ananyaa Bhargava picked up a 6-1 win over Flavia Rambaldi and Ana Sofia Sanchez at No. 3 to give the Pride a 1-0 lead going into singles play.
Soyer was the Pride's lone singles victor, battling Aina Garriga in a grueling three-set match and coming away with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-6 victory at the No. 3 flight. Bhargava also had a tough three-set match at No. 6 but came up on the wrong end of a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-10 decision.
Hofstra is back in action Thursday, February 10 at 1 p.m., hosting Fairleigh Dickinson at Point Set Indoor in Oceanside.
