Bethpage, NY - The Hofstra University women's tennis team opened their spring season with a 4-0 loss to LIU Saturday night at Sportime in Bethpage, New York. The Pride slipped to 0-1 on the season while the Sharks improved to 2-2,
LIU took the doubles point, winning 6-4 at all three flights. Valentina Duacenco and Sofiya Kuzina defeated
Mandisa Walle and
Deniz Soyer at No. 1 before the Sharks clinched the point at No. 3, where Bianca Compuestp and Jasmine Maduel defeated
Kayla Solagnier and
Ananyaa Bhargava. The teams finished the second flight match between LIU's Victoria Evechtchenko and Elinaar Storkaas and Hofstra's
Katherine Kachkarov and
April Sanchez, though the score did not count towards the team total.
The teams completed three singles matches with LIU prevailing in each and the match was stopped once a team winner was decided. Kuzina opened with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Sanchez at the No. 4 flight. Compuesto followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Solagnier at No. 2. Evechtchenko closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Kachkarov at the No. 1 flight.
Hofstra is back in action Sunday at Sacred Heart. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
