SB: Hofstra Drops Two On Second Day of Unconquered Invitational

Tallahassee, FL – The Hofstra University softball team faced an identical task to yesterday, as the Pride took on Indiana and #3/3 Florida State at JoAnne Graf Field at the Seminole Softball Complex. Hofstra dropped both matchups on Saturday afternoon.

Game 1: Indiana 4, Hofstra 0

Indiana jumped on the Pride right away as Cora Bassett hit an inside the park home run to lead off the game. Hofstra stayed composed however and retired the side in order to finish out the first inning. Chelsea Manto got Hofstra started with a base hit through the left side and stole second, but the Pride was unable to push anything across.

Indiana doubled the lead one inning later with a bases loaded walk with one out, but the Hofstra pitching remained focused and once again tossed two-straight outs to end the inning. Indiana added a third run in the third and fourth tally in the top of the seventh, bringing the score to 4-0. Hofstra had two chances, the first in the bottom of the third when Gianna Iaquinto led off the frame with a base hit to center and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and later in the fifth when Iaquinto got on base again, this time with a walk before Losco followed up with an infield single.

Nikki Mullin earned the start inside the circle and threw 2.2 innings, striking out two batters. Julia Apsel pitched 4.1 innings in relief and allowed just two hits while striking out two batters.

Game 2: #3/3 Florida State 10, Hofstra 0 (5)

The Seminoles used just two innings to do all their damage, scoring five runs in the first inning and five in the fourth. Hofstra put three runners on base in the third and fourth innings with two hit by pitches and a walk, but Hofstra could not capitalize on the opportunities.

After a Seminole pitching change to lead off the top of the fifth inning, Angelina Ioppolo beat out a dribbler to second base before Manto placed a base hit to third, but an obstruction call ended the threat and the game.

Hofstra used four pitchers against the Seminoles. Haley Venturini earned the start before Julia Apsel came in relief and threw 2.1 innings, striking out two batters. Annabella Pisapia also threw 1.1 innings in the circle and struck out a pair of hitters, before Nikki Mullin closed out the game.
