Tallahassee, FL – The Hofstra softball team closed out competition at the Unconquered Invitational, dropping a 6-0 decision to the Indiana Hoosiers.
Hofstra scattered four hits on the afternoon, including a 2-for-3 performance at the plate by
Kasey Collins.
Chelsea Manto and
Sam Ward also had a base hit.
After a scoreless first inning, Indiana scored its first run with an RBI single following a triple by Sarah Stone. The Hoosiers doubled their lead in the third with a solo home run before extending the lead to four in the fourth with back-to-back unearned runs. Indiana scored twice more in the fifth and sixth innings to finalize the score at 6-0. Hofstra had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the second when
Gianna Iaquinto reached on an error and advanced to second base one at bat later.
Julia Apsel started the contest and pitched 4.0 innings, surrendering three earned runs.
Haley Venturini pitched the final three frames and did not allow an earned run.
Hofstra dropped to 0-9 overall following the weekend while Indiana moved to 5-4.
The Pride returns to the field next weekend in Louisville, Kentucky for the Cardinal Classic. Hofstra will kick off the weekend with a doubleheader on Friday, March 4 against Louisville. Hofstra will then meet Illinois and Western Michigan on Saturday before closing out the weekend against Western Michigan with a single-game on Sunday.
