WBB: Hines Nets 1,000th Career Point, Double-Doubles at William & Mary

Williamsburg, Va. – Redshirt-senior Jaylen Hines notched her 1,000th career point, but the Hofstra women's basketball ultimately dropped a 61-48 decision to the College of William & Mary Tribe on Sunday afternoon.

In addition to hitting a milestone, Hines netted her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jahsyni Knight led Hofstra with 17 points and four steals and also knocked down a pair of three-pointers. Rosi Nicholson added seven points and five boards for the Pride, while Jaala Henry finished with five points, six rebounds and five assists.

The game was closely contested for the first half as the first 20 minutes of action featured seven lead changes and neither team holding an advantage larger than five. It was Hofstra who had that five-point advantage with 1:59 left in the first quarter, but the Tribe closed the frame on an 8-2 run to take a slim 19-18 lead into the second quarter.

Hofstra and William & Mary traded a pair of baskets, before a layup by Henry and trey by Knight extended Hofstra's lead back out to 25-21 at 4:07 in the second. Hines hit two more layups for Hofstra but the Tribe had answers both times including a pair of free throws with under a minute remaining to cut the halftime score to 29-28 in favor of the Pride.

William & Mary opened up the scoring in the second half and out-scored Hofstra, 17-9 in the third stanza, but never trailed by more than six points until William & Mary's Sydney Wagner made it a seven-point game with a free throw with under a minute in the third. Hofstra was able to get back within five points, 45-40 with a pair of free throws by Knight, but the Tribe took control underneath the four-minute mark with an 8-2 run spanning from 4:03 to 1:41, opening the lead up to 11, 55-44. William & Mary then went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe with under a minute remaining to clinch the victory.
