SB: Hofstra Rallies Late But Falls to Liberty

Leesburg, FL – Hofstra rallied and scored one run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth, but the Liberty Flames (4-5) were able to hold off the Pride at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex, 6-3 on Saturday evening. Hofstra moved to 0-3 on the season.
 
Chelsea Manto recorded her third-straight multi-hit game, going 3-for-4 at the plate, while Sam Ward and Madison McKevitt also added a pair of hits. McKevitt drove in two runs for the Pride while Ward scored once.
 
Liberty posted four runs by the top of the fourth inning, but Hofstra got right back in it when Ward led off the bottom of the fourth with a double down the left field line. Ward eventually moved to third before she scored on a perfectly placed McKevitt single between the Liberty first and second basemen.
 
The Flames added one more run in the fifth, but Hofstra continued to stay in the game when ward once again led off the inning with a hard base hit off of the Liberty third baseman's glove. Two batters later, Angelina Ioppolo reached first base on a throwing error that allowed pinch runner Amanda Maffucci to score from second base before McKevitt added a third Pride run with an RBI groundout to cut into the score, 5-3.
 
Liberty scored one more run on a Pride throwing error, and in their final at bats, the Pride continued to chip as Manto led off with a double to left field, but Hofstra was unable to cross any more runs as Liberty ended the game with a flyout and tag play at the plate.
 
Nikki Mullin started the game and took the loss inside the circle, tossing 2.2 innings and allowing two earned runs .Julia Apsel pitched four innings and relief and struck out two batters.
 
Hofstra is back in action for the final game of THE Spring Games against Stetson, tomorrow, Sunday February 20 at 9 a.m. The game will be streamed live on FloSoftball.

-Liberty took advantage of three Hofstra miscues
