SB: Hofstra Drops Matchup to Stetson in THE Spring Games Finale

Leesburg, FL – The Hofstra softball team closed out its first weekend of action at THE Spring Games on Sunday evening and fell to the Stetson Hatters, 4-0.

Hofstra posted six total hits on the day, led by Meghan Giordano who went 2-for-3 at the plate. Chelsea Manto, Kasey Collins, Devyn Losco, and Brianna Morse also recorded one base knock each.

Stetson scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first, and Hofstra nearly cut into that lead in the top of the third, but runners were stranded on first and third when a strikeout ended the inning. The Hatters scored a pair of runs with a base hit to center field in the third, and added one more run in the bottom of the sixth with a passed ball.

Morse led off the seventh with a base hit to right center field, but Hofstra couldn't push anything else across as the Hatters secured the win.

Haley Venturini tossed a complete-game for Hofstra, striking out seven batters while allowing two walks and two earned runs.

Hofstra is back in action in the Sunshine State next weekend for a set of five games at the Unconquered Invitational hosted by Florida State. Hofstra will face Indiana three times and the fourth-ranked Seminoles twice. The Pride will kick the weekend off with a 12 p.m. meeting with Indiana on Friday, February 25 before taking on Florida State following the conclusion of game one.

-Manto finished the weekend batting 9-for-15 for Hofstra (.600)
