Philadelphia, PA – Hofstra placed three players in double-figure points, led by
Aaron Estrada's 32 as the Pride picked up an 83-73 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Drexel Thursday night at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. It was Estrada's fourth 30-point game this season.
Hofstra improved to 16-9 overall and 8-4 in the CAA with the win, its third consecutive victory. Drexel slipped to 11-11 overall and 6-6 in league play.
Estrada shot an efficient 14-21 from the floor, including 4-6 from three-point range, and added six rebounds, six assists, and one steal.
Jalen Ray scored 20 points on 6-7 shooting, including 3-4 from long distance.
Abayomi Iyiola chipped in with 10 points to go along with 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season.
The teams played a back-and forth first half that featured 13 lead changes and two tie scores. Hofstra's biggest lead of five points (7-2) came early on in the game while the Dragons biggest advantage was four, 13-9, with 14:28 on the clock. The Pride led by four, 32-28, with 4:39 to go in the half following a step back three-pointer from Estrada. Drexel responded with four straight points to tie the game at 32 with 3:14 to go and went ahead by two, 36-34 with 44 seconds to play. However,
Caleb Burgess' pull-up jumper with 29 ticks to play sent the teams into halftime tied at 36.
The teams traded baskets to start the second half before Estrada put the Pride ahead to stay with a layup 56 seconds into the stanza. That started a 17-7 run for the Pride that resulted in a 55-45 lead with 10:47 to go on another pull-up jumper from Estrada. Hofstra's lead would grow to 14, 78-64, with 1:19 to play on
Jarrod Simmons' layup. The Dragons would score nine of the game's final 14 points to make the final deficit 10.
Amari Williams scored 19 points to lead the Dragons. Camren Wynter added 17 points, while Melik Martin had 14 points and six rebounds.
Hofstra is back in action Saturday at Delaware. Tip-off from the Bob Carpenter Center is set for 6:30 p.m.

-Ray's 20 points gives him 1,646 career points, 31 behind Norman Richardson for 11th-place on the Pride's all-time scoring list.
