Hempstead, NY - Hofstra University Baseball Coach Frank Catalanotto today announced the signings of seven talented high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent during the November signing period. The seven - Michael Brown, Joseph Curreri, Nick LoBello, Ryan McLaughlin, Joseph Mennella, Tanner Sanderoff, and Mike Sweeney - will begin their academic and athletic careers at Hofstra in the fall of 2023.
Brown (Las Vegas, NV), an infielder, plays scholastically at Shadow Ridge High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. During his two playing seasons he has been selected to the All-Desert Division First Team and the all-conference first team. He has also been an Academic All-Nevada selection as well. This past season he helped lead the Mustangs to the Nevada 4A Division State championship, batting .367 with seven doubles, three triples, 26 RBIs, and 42 runs scored. Brown plays travel baseball with the Ohio Warhawks.Â
Curreri (Beach Lake, PA), a right-handed pitcher, attends Honesdale (PA) High School where he is a four-year member of the baseball team. As a sophomore, he earned the Earl L. Wilson Rookie of the Year Award and Honesdale's Cy Young Award. This past season he earned the Coaches Award. He has struck out 50 batters in each of the past two seasons and has a career batting average against of .195. Curreri plays travel baseball for the Northeast Pride.Â
LoBello (New York, NY) , an outfielder, attends Xavier High School in New York City, where he is coached by former Hofstra assistant Dan Palumbo. He earned a Gold Glove Award as a freshman for the Knights. LoBello plays travel baseball for Time To Sign Sports. He plans to major in business at Hofstra.
McLaughlin (Warwick, NY), a pitcher, attends Warwick Valley High School. He has been a member of the baseball team for three seasons and also plays on the football team. As a junior, he was the Most Valuable Player of the baseball team and earned all-section accolades. He posted a 1.60 ERA and a batting average of .381. McLaughlin plays travel baseball with Frozen Ropes and Tri-State Arsenal. He plans to major in finance at Hofstra.  Â
Mennella (Staten Island, NY), a corner infielder, plays baseball at St. Peter's Boys High School on Staten Island. As a junior in 2022, Mennella was named to the All-CHSAA First Team and to the Staten Island All-Star Team after batting .341 with eight doubles, two triples, 10 home runs, and 31 RBIs. Was the New York City home run leader and helped the Eagles to the semifinals of the CHSAA Playoffs. Mennella plays travel baseball with RCBC Ghost 17U Nationals. He plans to major in physical education at Hofstra.
Sanderoff (Silver Spring, MD), a left-handed pitcher, is a four-year member of the baseball team at James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. As a sophomore in 2021, he was named the division Player of the Year and he followed that up in 2022 with a first team all-division selection and a spot on the Honorable Mention All-Metropolitan team. Sanderoff is also a two-time team Most Valuable Player. He plays travel baseball with Dig In Ahearn.
Sweeney (Bellerose, NY), an infielder, plays scholastically at Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York. He has been a part of Chaminade's 2022 New York State championship and 2021 league championship teams. As a sophomore, he stole 12 bases and then added 10 steals as a junior. Sweeney plays travel baseball with Next Level and plans to major in communications at Hofstra.Â
Hofstra is coming off a 2022 season that saw the Pride capture their first Colonial Athletic Association championship and make their first NCAA Regionals appearance.Â
