Hofstra Falls At Northeastern On Second Half Penalty Kick

Brookline, MA - Jessie Hunt scored a penalty kick goal 11:19 into the second half to snap a 1-1 tie and Northeastern held on for a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Hofstra Sunday afternoon at Parsons Field. Hofstra's Wiktoria Fronc appeared to score the tying goal as time expired but the referees denied the goal, saying it crossed the line after the clock hit 0:00.

The Pride slipped to 6-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the CAA. Northeastern improved to 5-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in league action.

Northeastern opened the scoring at the 23:17 mark when Vivian Akyirem found herself all alone in front of the net and took a pass from Lauren Ahles, who was coming in along the endline and sent the shot into an empty net. Thirteen minutes later, Hofstra scored the equalizer when Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir drove a ball into the top right corner with Ellen Halseth notching the assist.

The Huskies would draw a penalty kick as a Hofstra defender pushed a Northeastern player in the back as she awaited a pass in the 18-yard box. Hunt sent the attempt into the lower left side of the goal to give the Huskies the lead.

The Pride had numerous opportunities in the second half, taking 12 shots and earning seven corner kicks in the final 45 minutes. However, Northeastern's Holland Stam was up to the task as she made seven of her nine saves in the second half.

Hofstra will return to action Thursday night, October 6 at Drexel with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
