Hofstra Defeats Charleston; Gains Ground In CAA Playoff Race

Hempstead, NY - Krista Agostinello and Anja Suttner scored first half goals and Hofstra held on for a 2-1 Colonial Athletic Association victory over College of Charleston Sunday afternoon at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. The victory vaulted Hofstra into seventh place in the CAA standings with one game remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the CAA Championship.

Hofstra improved to 8-6-3 overall and 3-3-2 in CAA play with its second win in as many games. Charleston slipped to 8-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in league action.

Agostinello got the Pride on the board at the 9:53 mark of the first half when she took a pass from Olivia Pearce just over the midfield line and raced in uncontested for her third goal of the season. The play started with a pass from Hofstra keeper Skylar Kuzmich, who was credited with a second assist on the goal.

Suttner scored on a free kick at the 14:29 mark to put the Pride up by a 2-0 score. The goal was her fourth of the season.

The Cougars got a goal in the second half when Delaney Dawes put in a cross from Mary Alexander at the 63:35 mark. The Cougars had another good scoring chance in the final two minutes on a free kick. Kuzmich went to the ground and the ball ended up on the foot of Dawes on the left side. Her shot at the empty net was blocked away by Suttner and the Cougars did not get another shot off as Hofstra cleared the rebound.
