FH: Hofstra Tripped Up in Road Loss to UMass Lowell

Lowell, MA - Despite an eight-save outing from Merlijn van der Vegt, the Hofstra field hockey team dropped a tough 1-0 result on the road to UMass Lowell from Cushing Field Sunday afternoon.

The River Hawks improved to 3-1 with today's close win. Meanwhile, Hofstra slips to 2-4 on the year.

UMass Lowell got on the board five minutes into the game off the second penalty corner of the game. Hannah Keefe received the inbounds pass and slid the ball to her left to Lara Ansaldi, who fired her shot past van der Vegt for the opener.

Despite the early deficit, the Pride continued to battle throughout the afternoon, giving themselves plenty of scoring opportunities during the course of the action until the final whistle sounded. Djuna Slort and Lieke Gorsse each had three shots on the day, while Cami Larsson finished the game with two shots on goal.

The Pride returns home for a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 15, against LIU. The start time for Wednesday's fixture is set for 3 p.m.

NOTES:
-Hofstra is now 7-2-1 all-time versus UMass Lowell. This was the first meeting between these programs since 2018.
-The Pride held a 10-5 advantage on penalty corners over UMass Lowell.
-UMass Lowell finished with 15 shots to 13 for Hofstra.
