MLAX: #17 Hofstra Drops Road Decision to Towson

Towson, MD - Ryan Tierney tied the Hofstra all-time points record, but the No. 17 Hofstra men's lacrosse team suffered a 10-8 loss to Towson Tuesday afternoon from Johnny Unitas Stadium in Colonial Athletic Association action.

The Pride falls to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the CAA, and Towson moves to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Tierney finished the day with three goals and one assist for four points to give him 238 points for his illustrious career, tying him with Jerry Simandl (1952-55) for the most points in Hofstra men's lacrosse history. Tierney's three goals also puts him in sight of another record, as he is now four from tying and five from breaking the all-time Colonial Athletic Association goals record of 162 held by Delaware's Curtis Dickson (2007-10).

Hofstra fell behind 3-0 inside the first 10 minutes before Colton Rudd gave the Pride their first goal of the afternoon. Tierney scored his first of the day to make it a 4-2 game, but the Tigers scored three of the last four goals in the second quarter to go into the break ahead 8-3. Tierney beat the Towson netminder with a low off-stick shot for Hofstra's third goal.

Justin Lynskey got himself on the board in the third quarter as the Pride trailed 9-4 going into the final 15 minutes of action. Towson added two scores to make it 10-4 with 6:34 to play, and Hofstra rattled off four unanswered goals to bring the deficit to two. Tierney completed his hat-trick to start the run, while Justin Sykes scored twice and James Philbin rippled the twine once.

Returning to the field for the first time since the fourth quarter against Fairfield, Alex Concannon dished out two assists in the fourth quarter for the Pride.
