WSOC: Suttner Forces Overtime in 89th Minute in 1-1 Draw with Drexel

Philadelphia, PA – Sophomore defender Anja Suttner buried her third goal of the season in the 89th minute to force overtime, but the No. 25 Hofstra women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw with the Drexel Dragons in a Colonial Athletic Association matchup on Thursday afternoon at the Vidas Athletic Complex.

Despite the score, Hofstra dominated the entirety of the match, posting an unbalanced 30-5 margin in shot opportunities over the Dragons to go along with a 16-0 edge in corner kicks.

The first half resulted in an 8-2 shot advantage for Hofstra as sophomore goalkeeper Skylar Kuzmich kept the Dragons off the scoreboard with two saves in the frame, but despite the chances, the match was scoreless at the half.

The Pride controlled nearly the entire second stanza, but Drexel broke the scoreless drought with a penalty kick goal in the 68th minute of play. Despite the 1-0 deficit, Hofstra refused to let up as the Pride continued to knock on the door with six more chances and five more corner kick opportunities during the next 20 minutes of action.

Suttner finally had the answer on Hofstra's 24th chance when junior forward Miri Taylor controlled a long pass from junior defender Krista Agostinello and passed it inside the box to senior midfielder Lucy Porter who turned and found a charging Suttner who slid and finished to the goalkeeper's lower right side in the 89th minute (88:24) to force overtime.

Aside from the successful penalty kick for the Dragons, Hofstra posted a 15-0 advantage in shots during the second half.

The Pride fought until the very last minute as Taylor had one final chance for Hofstra, but her look went wide left as time ticked down. The Pride tallied six chances across both overtime periods while Drexel managed two shots that were both stopped by Kuzmich around the 105-minute mark.

Kuzmich finished her day in goal with four saves.

Hofstra, still unbeaten on the season, moves to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0-1 in the CAA, while Drexel is now 3-2-1 on the season and 1-0-1 in conference play.

The Pride return to action on Monday, April 5 for a non-conference meeting against the Adelphi Panthers. Match time at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium is at 5:30 p.m. The match will also serve as senior day for Hofstra where the program will honor Sabrina Bryan
