WSOC: #24 Hofstra Clinches No. 1 Seed in CAA Championship With Dominant 7-2 Victory

Hempstead, NY – The #24 Hofstra women's soccer team clinched the #1 seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association women's soccer championship in style as the Pride dominated Towson in a 7-2 victory at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Seven different Pride players recorded at least one point on the day led by senior midfielder Lucy Porter's third-career hat trick on three goals. Senior midfielder Jordan Littleboy was spectacular in Hofstra's regular season finale as well, as she registered a career-high five points on one goal and three assists. Senior forward Sabrina Bryan, sophomore Marlene Fries, and senior Lucy Shepherd all had one goal and one assist, while junior forward Miri Taylor had two assists and freshman Julie Lind had one.

It took just 43 seconds for Hofstra to find the scoreboard as Shepherd delivered a pass from the right wing to Porter who found the back left corner of the net. After Shepherd made a spectacular defensive save near the 24-minute mark the Pride caught an unfortunate break as Towson recorded its first tally of the match on an own-goal. Hofstra took the lead back less than 10 minutes later as Taylor found the head of Fries on a corner kick, to which Porter was able to spin and volley her shot right in immediately in front of the net as the Pride took a 2-1 lead into halftime.

The first stretch of the second stanza included four total goals, three of which were scored by Hofstra, as the Pride extended that lead to two with its first opportunity of the second half. Shepherd dribbled in a pass and curled in a rocket from about 25 yards out with her left foot to find the inside corner of the far left post. The assist went to Littleboy, who then two minutes later, stormed after a loose ball and added another highlight-reel goal of her own, another Hofstra goal about 25 yards outside of the box to mark the score, 4-1.

Towson cut Hofstra's lead in half less than one minute later, but the Pride continued to fight back when Porter recorded her third goal of the match off a set piece by Littleboy. Fries tacked on Hofstra's sixth goal, the first of her career, when she stopped a hard pass from Bryan about five yards in front of the net and booted her shot home. Bryan put the cherry on top for the Pride as she recorded Hofstra's seventh goal with a penalty kick in the 89th minute.

Hofstra, the #1 team in the North Division, will face the #2 seed from the South Division, Elon, during the CAA Semifinals on Thursday, April 15. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at the Tiger Soccer Park on the campus of Towson University.
