WBB: Brown and Knight Collect All-CAA Accolades

RICHMOND, Va. – A pair of Hofstra guards were selected to the Colonial Athletic Association all-conference teams, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. Junior guard JaKayla Brown was named to the CAA All-Conference Second Team while junior guard Jahsyni Knight earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team.
 
Brown gathers all-conference honors for the first time in her career. Brown started and played in all 18 games for Hofstra this season, but during conference action alone, Brown averaged 17.3 points per game, good for fourth in the league. Her scoring average came on 39 percent shooting from the floor, and she also pulled down 3.0 rebounds per game, 1.2 assists per game, and eight steals.
 
This season, Brown has recorded a team-high 14 games with 10 or more points and four 20+ point games. She has also led the team in points 12 times and rebounding twice. On the year, Brown is averaging 15.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while dishing out 23 assists which is third on the team. Brown is also shooting 37-percent from the field and 73-percent from the free throw line.
 
Knight, a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh who was granted immediate eligibility for the 2020-21 season, made an immediate impact for the Pride during her first season in Hempstead. A member of the All-Defensive team, Knight finished with 27 total steals and an average of 2.3 swipes per game. Her 2.3 steals per game rank third in the conference and 50th in the nation. Knight is currently leading Hofstra to a top-40 national statistical ranking in steals per game (38th) and turnovers forced per game (38th).
 
This season, Knight has three games with at least five steals and six games with at least four steals. She has been a key player on the offensive end as well, averaging 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game. In all, she has posted 10 or more points in 10 games, seven games with five or more assists, and led Hofstra in assists in 16 of 18 games.  
 
Hofstra earned a No. 5 seed in this year's CAA Championship Presented by Sonabank. Championship action kicks off for Hofstra in the quarterfinals this Thursday, March 11 against the No. 4 seeded Towson Tigers. Tip-off at the Schar Center in Elon, North Carolina is set for 11 a.m.
