Staten Island, NY – Freshman
Jasmijn Verdoes scored the game-winner just over one minute into overtime as the Hofstra field hockey team picked up its first win of the season in a 1-0 result over Wagner from the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex Friday afternoon.
After the first minute of the overtime period, Verdoes collected a rebound following a blocked shot from junior
Djuna Slort. Verdoes spun to her right and away from her marker, giving her space to wind up and unleash a shot low and past the Wagner goalkeeper from mid-range for Hofstra's first win of the spring season.
The win moves Hofstra to 1-3 on the year, while Wagner moves to 0-1 following their season-opener.
Hofstra controlled the tempo today, taking a season-high 18 shots against the Seahawks and seeing 11 of those shots go on target. The Pride defense was also in top form, allowing only five Wagner shots.
