NEWARK, Del. – Junior forward
Miri Taylor and senior forward
Sabrina Bryan each recorded two goals and two points each as the Hofstra women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over the University of Delaware at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
In all, five different players recorded at least one point for Hofstra as the Pride improved to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play. Delaware fell to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the CAA.
In addition to the 12 points that Bryan and Taylor combined for, junior forward
Alia Mentzell and senior midfielder
Lucy Porter each tallied one goal for Hofstra while
Jordan Littleboy recorded one assist.
It was all Hofstra from the start as Bryan got the scoring started early when she finished a perfect through ball from Taylor to get Hofstra on the scoreboard at the 10:04 mark. Just over three minutes later, the scoring decision flipped when Taylor beat her defender, collected a pass from Bryan and used her left foot to find the back of the net.
Hofstra extended the lead to three after Delaware keeper, Lauren Krinsky made a diving stop on Taylor's initial shot, but Mentzell was there to bury the rebound immediately in front of the goal line in the 39th minute. About seven minutes later, the Pride continued to pile on the scoring when Taylor flicked in a header off of a corner kick by Bryan to give Hofstra a 4-0 lead at the half.
Bryan picked up the second half right where Hofstra left off as Littleboy curled in a pass toward the front of the net that was broken up by Krinsky but immediately fell to the right foot of Bryan who finished to the lower left corner. Porter scored the final goal for Hofstra in the 75th minute to cap off the six-goal victory for Hofstra.
Sophomore
Skylar Kuzmich and freshman
Katrine Thisgaard combined for their second shutout of the season in goal as Kuzmich made three stops while Thisgaard added two. Krinsky made 11 saves in net for the Blue Hens.
Hofstra returns to action this week for another CAA contest when it travels to Drexel on Thursday, April 1. Kick-off at Rhodes Field is set for 2 p.m.
