Bobby Casey made 11 saves in his first action of the season and senior
Ryan Tierney finished with six points on five goals and one assist as the Hofstra men's lacrosse team picked up a 15-7 road win against Fairfield from Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium Friday night to open Colonial Athletic Association play for the Pride.
The win moves Hofstra to 4-1 overall this season and 1-0 in the CAA. Meanwhile, the Stags drop to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
After trailing 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, graduate student
Justin Lynskey scored to tie the game at 2-2 and begin a 4-0 run for the Pride. Lynskey would score twice during this run, while seniors
Bryce Tolmie and
Ryan Tierney would also find the back of the net to give the Pride a 5-2 lead. Fairfield scored twice to cut the Hofstra lead to one with 6:30 left before halftime, but Tierney and redshirt senior
Riley Forte would give Hofstra a 7-4 lead going into the break.
The third quarter was all Hofstra as the Pride outscored the Stags 6-1 to lead 13-5 going into the final quarter. Forte scored twice in the third to give himself a hat-trick, while Tierney found the back of the net two times, and Lynskey and senior
James Philbin each scored once during the quarter. Fairfield opened the fourth quarter with a pair of goals to bring the margin to five, but excellent defense, coupled with goals from Tierney and Tolmie, helped the Pride come away with the first conference win of the season.
Forte and Lynskey each scored three goals and an assist for four points against the Stags, while Tolmie scored twice and assisted once for three points off the bench. Graduate student

Michael Altmann found the back of the net once each for the Pride. Tierney led the team with two caused turnovers, while senior
Brian Herber went 18-24 at the face-off X and scooped up 12 of Hofstra's 29 ground balls.
The Pride continues CAA action with a home game against #13 Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 30, at 1 p.m. Hofstra is 21-25 all-time against Massachusetts, but won the last meeting against the Minutemen, a 10-9 overtime thriller in 2019.

He sits 14 goals shy of breaking the Colonial Athletic Association record for career goals, held by Delaware's Curtis Dickson (162, 2007-10), and is 17 points away from breaking the Hofstra record for career points held by Jerry Simandl (238, 1952-55).
-Tierney finished with his fourth multi-goal game this season, and the 35th multi-goal game of his career.
