WSOC: Hofstra Off To Best Start Since 1994 With Shutout Of Northeastern

Hempstead, NY - Sophomore Anja Suttner tallied two goals and senior Sabrina Bryan added a goal and two assists as the Hofstra women's soccer team defeated Northeastern, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Hofstra improves to 5-0 overall with the win and 1-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play, while Northeastern slips to 3-3-1 and 1-1 this season. The 5-0 start to the season is the Pride's first since the 1994 squad began the year with eight consecutive victories. The 2002 team began the season 4-0-1.

Northeastern controlled much of the play early on in the contest and the Pride would get a big save from sophomore Skylar Kuzmich in the 22nd minute to keep the game scoreless. The momentum would shift in Hofstra's favor shortly thereafter and with the first half winding down, Bryan sent a cross into the box and Suttner finished to give the Pride the lead heading into the halftime break.

Bryan would continue her stellar day in the second half as she tallied her first of the day with just over 29 minutes left in regulation with assists coming from senior Lucy Porter and junior Miri Taylor

Hofstra put the finishing touches on a solid afternoon as Suttner made it 3-0 with just under four minutes left as Bryan sent a corner into the box and Suttner finished off a pass from Taylor.

It was the third time this season that Bryan has tallied four points in a game and Suttner's two goals mark the fifth time this season (Porter - 3 and Shepherd) that a Pride player tallied two goals in a game.

Kuzmich made the one save for Hofstra to earn the win. Taylor led the Pride with three shots in the game.

Angeline Friel had two saves for Northeastern, while Chelsea Domond and Mikenna McManus each had a shot for the Huskies.

Hofstra is back in action on Saturday, March 27, when it travels to Delaware for a 4 p.m. contest.
