Villanova, PA. - The Hofstra softball team continued action today at the Villanova Invitational and dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Wildcats, 6-0 and 9-8.
Junior
Devyn Losco went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while graduate student
Kristin Hallam scattered a team-high four hits (4-for-7) with two stolen bases. Junior
Meghan Giordano recorded three hits for Hofstra, and junior
Jaycee Ruberti had two base hits.
Madison McKevitt led Hofstra with three runs batted in.
Game 1: Villanova 6, Hofstra 0
Hofstra struggled to get the bats going in game one of the twinbill, as only two Pride players recorded a hit including Hallam and Giordano who each recorded two hits each.
The Wildcats scored in the second and third innings to open up to a 2-0 lead over the Pride, before adding a third run in the fourth frame when Ryan Henry tallied her fifth home run of the season for the Wildcats. Villanova added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure the victory.
Junior
Madison Burns (0-1) took the loss inside the circle and surrendered two earned runs during her 5.0 innings of work. Hallam made her first career appearance inside the circle, pitched one inning, and recorded one strike out. Paige Rauch (3-2) earned the win for Villanova and pitched a complete game.
Game 2: Villanova 9, Hofstra 8
The Wildcats got out to a 6-0 lead by the end of the third inning before Hofstra began chipping away in the fourth. Hofstra put three runners on with no outs before
Alexis Goeke reached on a fielder's choice to score
Chelsea Manto who reached on an error earlier in the inning. During the next at-bat,
Lindsey Hay drove in Ruberti to cut the Villanova lead to four.
After tacking on one run during the fifth inning, Hofstra stormed back with a five-run sixth inning to tie the game, 8-8. The Pride loaded the bases with one out before McKevitt ripped a three-RBI double to left field, scoring Losco,
Angelina Ioppolo and
Amanda Maffucci. The rally continued for Hofstra when Hallam recorded a base hit to left field, and two batters later, the Pride scored twice off of an RBI single by Ruberti.
Hofstra went down in order in the seventh before Villanova scored an unearned run off a double to right field.
Sophomore
Nikki Mullin (1-1) suffered the loss after tossing 4.1 innings and surrendering six runs, four earned. Isabella Pisapia pitched two innings in relief for the Pride and struck out one batter.
