Philadelphia, PA -
Jack Jett allowed one hit over eight scoreless innings in game one and the Pride rallied from a 2-0 deficit in game two as Hofstra earned a doubleheader sweep over La Salle Friday at Hank DeVincent Field. Game scores were 7-0 and 4-2.
Hofstra moves to 3-1 on the season with their third consecutive victory while La Salle falls to 0-2.
Jett (1-0) was dominant on the mound as he allowed just a sixth inning infield single while striking out nine batters in the longest outing of his career. The nine strikeouts were also a career-best.
The Pride got the only run they would need in the third inning as
Brian Goulard's two-out single brought in
Austin Gauthier with the first run of the contest. Hofstra would score four times in the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of La Salle errors. Goulard had a sacrifice fly in the inning while
Aidan Larkin drew a bases loaded walk. The Pride tacked on a run in the sixth as
Anthony D'Onofrio stole home on a double steal and closed out the scoring in the eighth with a Gauthier solo home run, his first of the season.
In game two, La Salle scored two runs in the first inning but was limited to three hits the rest of the way as the Pride tied the game in the sixth and went ahead with a two-run eighth in the 4-2 victory. Goulard once again came through with a big hit for the Pride as his two-run double in the sixth tied the score.
Ryan Morash put Hofstra ahead in the eighth with a double and
Alex Sica provided an insurance run with a sacrifice fly.
Mark Faello (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter
Brad Camarda, pitching five scoreless innings while allowing two hits with three strikeouts.
Chris Mott pitched a scoreless eighth and John Mikolaicyck worked around an error in the ninth to strike out the side and notch his first save.
Hofstra and La Salle will play another doubleheader Monday in Philadelphia. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. The games were moved form their originally scheduled day of Monday due to a forecast of inclement weather.Â
