ELON, N.C. – A deciding goal during the 59th minute by
Miri Taylor helped the Hofstra University women's soccer team claim its fourth Colonial Athletic Association title in the past five seasons on Sunday as the Pride defeated Northeastern University, 2-1 at Rudd Field on the campus of Elon University.
It was
Jordan Littleboy who floated a right-footed ball into the box from 30 yards out where Taylor beautifully sent a header inside the right post to cap off a come-from-behind victory for Hofstra. The Huskies struck first during the 18
th minute when Rose Kaefer found the back of the net, but it was the Pride answering moments later when
Lucy Shepherd scored her second goal of the championship on the right side of the penalty area.
Despite outshooting Northeastern 8-2 during the first half, the 1-1 score line carried into halftime before Taylor's 16
th goal of the season lifted the Blue and Gold to victory. As a team, Hofstra held a 13-4 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Skyler Kuzmich needed two saves to earn the win.
On the day it was Taylor and Shepherd netting goals for Hofstra, while
Georgia Brown,
Cailey Welch, Shepherd, and Littleboy added assists.
Following the match, Taylor, Littleboy, Shepherd, and
Lucy Porter were named to the 2021 CAA Championship All-Tournament team, while Porter was named the Most Outstanding Player.
With the win, Hofstra earns the CAA automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The 64-team field will be revealed as part of a live selection show streaming on NCAA.com on Monday, Nov. 8 at 4:30 p.m. EST.
NOTES
-The win gives Hofstra its seventh CAA Championship since joining the league during the 2002 season. The Pride also won the title in 2005, 2007, 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2019.
